Walter Gurba Rink

The outdoor rink at Delton Community League is named the Walter Gurba Rink in memory of Walter Gurba, a long-time Delton resident and dedicated community volunteer. Walter was well known for his commitment to local hockey and youth sports, and his spirit of service helped shape the rink into a welcoming, community-focused space.

Delton Community League was established in 1961, with a rink and hall built at Delton Park in 1962. Since then, the Walter Gurba Rink has been a central winter hub for public skating, shinny hockey, and learn-to-skate programs, serving families and neighbours for generations.

In recent years, the league has hosted special events at the rink in Walter’s memory, including friendly hockey afternoons that celebrate his legacy. Today, the Walter Gurba Rink remains a key facility for the neighbourhood and a reminder of the impact one committed volunteer can have on a community.
